We Tried It: Skinny Limits Juice Cleanse!

Juice cleanses are so trendy lately, but I thought they were just for Hollywood stars and yogis.  But when my friend Darby told me she and her husband tried the Skinny Limits Juice Cleanse, I wanted to jump on the juicing bandwagon too!  Here is my Skinny Limits Juice Cleanse Review:

In my fridge…

Let me start out by saying, no, I do not think I need to lose weight.  The idea of raw, fresh-pressed, 100% vegetable and fruit juice appealed to me because I thought it would disrupt my routine of too much Chick-Fil-A, granola bars and Mexican food, and it would be a good way to get more leafy green veggies in my system.  I was curious to see if a juice fast would give me more energy and make me look less worn out and just feel more healthy.

I opted for the 2-day juice cleanse mainly because I did not think I had the willpower to do a 3-day cleanse “for beginners” as per the Skinny Limits instructions.  It was a breeze to order online, and they ship overnight to your doorstep anywhere in the U.S.  Skinny Limits only delivers on Tuesday – Friday, and you need to start the cleanse on the day you receive the juice or the next day at latest.

The plan: drink six 16-ounce bottles of juice every 2.5 or 3 hours, and no solid food.  Strikingly similar to my baby Wade’s feeding schedule!

Here’s my juice diary:

Day 1 (Sunday)

[Day One I started at 10:00 a.m. because I wasn’t hungry in the morning, so I decided to do a two-hour spacing in between my “feedings” so I could fit in all the juice before bedtime.]

10:00 a.m.: Pure & Simple Green: Apple, Cucumber, Celery, Kale, Spinach, Lemon, Parsley.  Delicious!!  Super-refreshing, not overly veggie-tasting, and I feel like I am at a spa.  Except for my screaming children.  This will be a piece of cake (ooh, cake sounds good)!

10:45 a.m.: when’s my next feeding??

Noon (on the dot- I am hungry!): Balance Green Ginger: Apple, Cucumber, Kale, Spinach, Lemon, Parsley, Ginger.  SO tasty!  The Balance tastes pretty much like the first juice, but with a ginger “kick” which I love.  I would definitely drink this juice even if I were not on a cleanse.

2:00 p.m.: Pure & Simple Green.  I’m going to go run some errands to distract myself from the lack of eating.

4:00 p.m.: Scorpion Spicy Lemonade: Lemon, Agave Nectar, Cayenne Pepper.  Probably my least favorite of the juices, but drinkable.  I put it on ice and drink it through a straw poolside.

6:00 p.m.: I’m glad I wrote my commentary in real time, because I am considerably less jazzed about the Pure & Simple Green than I was this morning.  The celery note is becoming more, um, prominent.

8:00 p.m.: Crescent Moon Cashew Nut Milk: Raw Cashews, Vanilla Bean, Agave, Cinnamon, Sea Salt.  At this point, the Crescent Moon tastes like the most luxurious, decadent Mexican Vanilla milkshake I have ever had.  And bonus: it actually keeps me reasonably satisfied until bedtime.

Day 2 (Monday):

When I woke up this morning, my eyes were dramatically less puffy than usual and I looked wide awake immediately!  I am encouraged by these results, and I can DO THIS!  I will try to keep busy today.

9:45 a.m.: Pure & Simple Green tastes more palatable again this morning.  Maybe it is more of a morning-type drink.

Noon: Balance Green Ginger.  Zing!!  I’m feeling fine and energetic.

2:00 p.m.: Chugging Pure & Simple as I pick up my son from school.  I was feeling a little faint before, but I feel fine again after the juice.

4:00 p.m.: Scorpion Lemonade is kind of tart, but really tastes fine.  I salivate at a playdate as my son gnaws on iced sugar cookies.

6:00 p.m.: Feeling a bit spacey, like it might be unsafe to drive.  Pretty sick of the Pure & Simple Green, but it definitely peps you up afterward.

6:30 p.m.: My husband declares me “cranky.”  Harrumph.  Getting two kids to bed is the only thing that stands between me that sweet, sweet Crescent Moon.

7:45 p.m.: Crescent Moon Cashew Nut Milk time!  It is everything I remembered from yesterday, and keeps me full for hours.  I wonder how many calories this little gem has…

Day 3 (Tuesday):

I am so excited to see my results when I wake up!  Unfortunately my bathroom scale is broken, but I can tell I have lost water weight.  No belly bloat, no “carb face,” no puffy eyes!  I feel like I have a flatter tummy for the local magazine photo shoot I have today to promote BeautyNow.  I would definitely recommend Skinny Limits short-term for brides, reunions, family photos, or anyone who has a big event and wants to look her best!

After the photo shoot with my hair did…glad to have completed the juice cleanse!

Pros:

–works like a charm to strip off a couple pounds of water weight

–excellent customer service, easy ordering and delivery

–a pre-bottled juice cleanse is easier than buying and preparing actual food for yourself

–I feel really good about the fact that I ingested so many vegetables and am inspired to incorporate better foods into my diet

–I’ve definitely been hungrier on other diets.  The juice at regular intervals does a pretty good job to keep the debilitating hunger at bay

Cons:

–even though the juices keep you from being overly hungry, there is a primal urge to want to chew something

–I don’t know how someone could keep this up for three days or more!

xoxo,

Kathleen
