BeautyNow's Oscars Beauty Picks!

I LOOOOVE the Oscars! Everyone knows the Academy Awards is the female Super Bowl, and this year did not disappoint. Not a lot of fashion risks, but pretty gowns and looks all around. Well done, famous people! Here’s a rundown of 2014’s Oscars beauty trends and stand-out looks of the night:

SHORT HAIR:

I’m discounting host Ellen DeGeneres because she always has short hair, but I applaud these ladies for making their short ‘dos look Oscar-appropriate, yet young and different from each other:

(Clockwise from left): Portia de Rossi, Charlize Theron, Kristin Chenowith, Jennifer Lawrence [All photos in this post by Getty Images].

And props to Lupita for changing things up and wearing a HEADBAND! Or maybe it’s technically a crown since it is totally blinged out in diamonds. I also really liked her cherry popsicle lipgloss:

MESSY UPDO:

If you didn’t have a pixie cut, then you wore a messy bun. When I remarked that few were wearing hair down (except Jared Leto), my father actually made the keen observation that meteorologists had predicted a downpour, so maybe that’s why everyone planned updos. Very good point!

(L to R): Olivia Wilde, Julia Roberts, Kristin Bell.

NARY A STATEMENT LIP!

Almost everyone did a riff on the smokey eye/cat eye theme, most with heavy black liquid liner on top (try Loreal Infallible Gel Lacquer Liner). I only spotted a few dark red lips and pops of color out there:

(L to R): Naomi Watts, Emma Watson, Leslie Mann.

MULLET NECKLACE:

I wasn’t crazy about Jennifer Lawrence’s dress (Red…again? You fell…AGAIN?!) But I think we will see her party-in-back necklace style in the seasons to come:

LONG SLEEVE, CHAMPAGNE-COLORED EMBELLISHED DRESSES:

Some of my favorite dresses of the night were long sleeved! Maybe it is the influence of Kate Middleton’s wedding dress, but I would love to see this more. Sleeves aren’t just for the over-60 set!

BABY BUMP:

Usually watching the Oscars makes me want to go on a diet, but this year it made me want a baby bump! Well, almost. These are my three favorite preggo looks. Sorry, Kerry Washington! But Kerry is the most pregnant of the group, so I think she deserves an award just for showing up in heels. And Chris Hemsworth’s wife, Elsa Pataky, is due with TWINS in May! Wow. Y’all look freaking amazing! (Please also note more examples of the messy updo.)

Hope you enjoyed my picks! Now I’m off to bed because tomorrow’s a school day!

xoxo,

Kathleen
