BeautyNow's Best Swimsuits 2014

My husband and I have a long-overdue beach getaway coming up in May, so I have been scouring the stores and internets for the best swimsuits 2014. Here are some picks that bridge the gap between schoolmarm and video vixen:

***Before you read this post, you must pay the toll! Ha! #kiddingnotkidding Seriously, have you downloaded the FREE BeautyNow app yet? Please CLICK HERE to download the BeautyNow app! It would mean the world to me! Pretty please!?!?!?

Now back to the swimsuits…I love this yellow and navy color block situation from J Crew. Apparently everyone else did too because most sizes are sold out. It reminds me of a cut-out swimsuit I had as a kid because I wasn’t allowed to wear a real two-piece yet. Ha!

I bought this tie-front bikini from Kate Spade Saturday after trying it on in Houston’s Rice Village store. It doesn’t look like much here, but it is REALLY cute on and actually looks better on a real person with some curves as opposed to the model in the picture.

I was worried that the tie-front top wouldn’t have much support, but it was fine and the tying in the front actually did good things up there. Also I recommend sizing up on the bottoms.

I think this black triangle top from Vix Swimwear is pretty chic and classy, as far as bikinis go. I tried this on in person at Nordstrom, and it was extremely flattering (enough to justify the high price point). The top and bottoms have the right amount of coverage so you don’t feel TOO exposed. Also, generally I gravitate toward side-tie bikini bottoms because they are adjustable and do not create a muffin top, but these Vix bottoms (without a side-tie) do not cause that problem. (FYI I got the same size in top and bottom).

The ‘Bia’ bikini has been around for a few seasons and is very popular with famous people, if you care about that sort of thing:

I also like this Luli Fama ‘Wavy’ Bikini— with a flirty ruffle that comes in lots of nice colors. I have not tried it on in person, though, and it looks like the bottoms may be a little brief in the back. But I’m sure it would work for those of you blessed with tiny butts [also I hate you. Just kidding] The bottoms are side-tie, which is a plus!

Nobody does tribal print swimsuits better than Mara Hoffman. The ‘Divine Basket Weave’ bikini print comes in several different cuts and color ways, and every one is fantastic!

For a more preppy print, try Trina Turk. I like this ’60s-inspired ‘Festival Folkloric’ triangle bikini.

I found some bargains too! This $30 Merona ruched halter from Target looks identical to way more expensive suits I’ve seen! It comes in a chic grey, and the ruching is both forgiving and a little glam.

Finally, an old favorite: I got this Mossimo striped tankini from Target two years ago right after I had a baby, and I still wear it constantly around the pool with the kids and get lots of compliments! It is not too clingy in the stomach area, but does not look as matronly as most one-pieces. Mine is the same style as below, but in navy and white stripe (which they do not sell this season, I guess). FYI, these run a little large, so I ordered the small in top and bottom.

I wear mine with the matching striped bottom instead of the solid. Mossimo does sell a navy and white tankini this year, but I think the top looks a little more “mom.”

Is anyone else buying a new suit this year? If you found a good one, please let me know!

xoxo,

Kathleen
