MAC Cult Favorite Lipsticks
08 • 19 • 2014
The MAC Cosmetics brand is a longtime makeup artist and beauty blogger favorite, but I just don’t own much of it. I bought one lipstick YEARS ago (we’re talking high school), and I remember thinking it was dry and chalky, so I have steered clear ever since. But beauty bloggers keep raving about certain shades of lipstick, so I visited the MAC counter at Saks and picked up a few that bloggers mentioned time and time again. Here is my review of a few MAC cult favorites, plus one from MAC’s new Huggable Lipcolour line:
From left to right, they are Syrup, Rebel, Touche, and Creme Cup:
SYRUP: Sheer, shimmery, and plummy, Syrup is a your-lips-but-better neutral that I think would look good on any complexion. Sort of like Clinique Black Honey, but I like the color SO much better. Syrup is one of MAC’s Lustre lipsticks, so it gives sheer buildable color. Not super shiny, but not matte either. Here I am in Syrup (please ignore the sippy cup– Wade would not let me put him down):
REBEL: A Satin lipstick that looks super-goth in the tube, but goes on slightly more hot, dark pink than you’d think. Not super drying, and lasts hours. I think Rebel is good if you want to make a statement:
I think Rebel looks better on brunettes with more olive skin tones. Check out Rebel on one of my favorite bloggers, Beauty & le Chic:
CREME CUP: A GREAT light nude pink! Creme Cup was my favorite of the bunch because of the consistency and color. The MAC Cremesheen lipsticks are super moisturizing. I wear Creme Cup in the photo below, but I feel like in real life the color reads a little more “nude” than “baby pink”:
HUGGABLE LIPCOLOUR in TOUCHE: Touche isn’t actually a cult favorite– it is from the brand-new Huggable Lipcolour line. I wasn’t planning on buying it, but when I saw that 80% of the colors had a “Sold Out” sticker on the tester, I had to have one.
Touche is a nice, glossy beige-nude. The consistency was a little weird– it was hard to get product to come off the bullet, almost like it was covered in wax. I had to press really hard and go back and forth on my lips about ten times (like you are putting on clear Chapstick) to get any color payoff. It was not as mirror-glossy as the MAC advertisements, but it was quite glossy and very moisturizing. I think the Touche looks better in photos than the Creme Cup, although I prefer the Creme Cup (both the color and the Cremesheen formulation) in real life.
A few other MAC cult favorite lipsticks that I did not purchase this time (I had to draw the line somewhere!) are:
SNOB (a super-light, blue-toned mod pink, favored by mega-blogger Cupcakes and Cashmere):
CANDY YUM-YUM (a hot purply-pink, as seen on Jessica Alba):
RIRI WOO (a matte cool red, created by Miss Rihanna herself):
