The Brightest Orange-Red Lipstick

I think I’ve been looking for that perfect J Crew bright orange-red lip since about 2011.

I’ve tried the usual recommendations like Nars HeatwaveMaybelline Coral Crush, and Face Stockholm for J Crew, but they don’t quite have the intensity I’m looking for.

Then I discovered Lime Crime (weirdest name ever!) lipsticks by trolling makeup and beauty related hashtags on Instagram (also weird, I know).  Lime Crime is something of an Instagram and beauty blog sensation, so naturally I had to try it out for myself!

Lime Crime Velvetines in Suedeberry is the most intense, punchy, DAY GLO orange-red lipstick on the market.  It is a liquid lipstick that goes on with a wand and quickly dries to a super-matte finish.  And then it does not go anywhere.

Here I am right after I got the lipstick in the mail.

Here I am, six hours later, after eating and drinking and falling asleep on the couch:

FYI, if you care, I don’t think men like this look.  My husband laughed and said he would keep a lookout for Batman coming through the window after me (i.e. because Batman might confuse me with the Joker.  Ha.)  Little James, my three-year old, said “Mommy, I want pink teeth too.”

I think it looks ok, as long as you keep your other makeup extremely natural.  Mascara, but please no eyeshadow or eyeliner.

I was about to publish this post, but then I found another lipstick that I just HAD to mention, Diego Dalla Palma lipstick in No. 104 ‘Rosso Rosetto’ (also called ‘Orange, the Headstrong’ on the website).

At least on me, the ‘Rosso Rosetto’ is a little more true orange than the Lime Crime.  Here you can see how it looks in several different lights:

Selfies are hard!  Don’t make fun of my ‘Blue Steel’

I had never heard of the Diego Dalla Palma brand, but discovered it at Facade in Uptown Park.  I cringed at the $34 price tag (no blogger discount!), but the lipstick is truly impressive and different from anything else I’ve tried.  You know how most long-wear lipsticks fade from the inside/middle part of your lips, and just leave a bright ring around the border of your lips?  I hate that.  The Diego Dalla Palma is pretty matte, but super-moisturizing, which makes the color fade evenly on your lips.  Throughout the day the lipstick morphed into a pretty stain, with lasting moisture.

So there you go: two great options for that super-bright J Crew lip!

xoxo,

Kathleen
