Can This Mascara Do It All?

I’m such a sucker for a new drugstore mascara! I picked up the brand new Revlon Ultimate All-in-One Mascara at the grocery store and have been wearing it several days in a row to provide you lovely readers with a fully-researched review. Here is my Revlon All in One Mascara review:

Revlon is replacing all of its current mascaras with five new ones, one of them being this Revlon All in One Mascara. It claims to do 5-tasks-in-1, providing length, fullness, lift, pigment, and definition. Surprisingly the All in One is still difficult to find– I saw it at the Target store, but it is not available online anywhere except the Revlon website. I also saw it at HEB, but not at Ulta or my local CVS. I’m actually glad to hear Revlon is replacing their mascaras- while I usually think Revlon has very quality products, I thought their Lash Potion mascara was terrible!

Revlon’s new Ultimate All-in-One Mascara has a unique raisin-sized, ellipsis-shaped brush. It is a rigid plastic brush with a hole down the middle. There are no bristles, just short hard plastic nubs. It’s so small, it looks more like one of those lower lash mascaras.

Because the bristle-nubs are so short, it causes the product to goop up on the brush, and over-coat the brush head. As you can see in the above photos, you can barely see the bristles and the empty space in the middle of the brush head is not visible at all.

Because of this overload of product, the mascara applied WAY too much at the base of my lashes where I started applying the brush. The second eye I did (without re-dipping the brush) did much better because there wasn’t as much product on the brush. But when I tried to wipe off the brush beforehand to remove some excess product, that didn’t work well to remove the excess.

More than anything, the Ultimate All-in-One mascara is very WET. Way too wet. Even though I was being super-careful I got smudges on the inner corners of my eyes during application. Perhaps this will be one of those mascaras that gets much better after it has been opened a couple weeks and dries out a bit.

While I don’t love the brush or the overly wet formula, looking at these pictures, I did have a pretty good result. I will say it is very BLACK, and it does curl without using an eyelash curler (similar to Benefit Roller Lash or my current fave, CoverGirl The Super Sizer, which curls like Roller Lash but doesn’t leave smudges under your eyebrows throughout the day). After going through the pain of de-clumping and wiping off smudges, my lashes are super dark and shiny, and lengthened and almost a 90-degree, eye-opening angle.

Here I am wearing Revlon Ultimate All-in-One mascara, along with Garnier BB Cream (All Day Shine Control), Too Faced Endless Summer 16-Hour Bronzer, Hourglass Ambient Light Powder in Ethereal Light (to set makeup), and Buxom Cosmetics Bold Matte Lip Color in Naturally Daring (these new Buxom lip colors are my FAVE!!!! So amazing- the Guilty Angel shade might be my fave lip color EVERRRRR).
